Prostate & Erectile Dysfunction Q & A
What is the role of the prostate?
The prostate is a small gland, approximately the size of a walnut, situated between the bladder and your penis. Though it is small in size, this gland plays a vital role in sexual performance, satisfaction, and reproduction.
The prostate is responsible for creating fluid that, when mixed with semen, helps sperm on the way to fertilize eggs during intercourse.
How do prostates change in size?
As men age, prostates progressively get larger. From the age of 40 to about 60, that walnut-sized prostate will swell to about the size of your fist. The change in size is normal for most men and in most cases would be considered a benign change that comes with aging. For some this enlarging could be the early stages of prostate cancer.
How can treating ED help my prostate?
At the Swain Health Group we provide the Swainwave AWT Protocol, a new method of stimulating nerves in the penis in an effort to restore full functionality. Our healthcare specialists will apply novel technology to patients, delivering sound waves that stimulates blood flow throughout the penis, urging blood vessels to grow and allowing for healthier erections.
With better blood circulation throughout the penis, erections will be stronger and last longer. This allows for more satisfying sexual intercourse and reduces discomfort.
Men from across the United States have been able to reverse the limitations of erectile dysfunction caused by enlarged prostates. At the Swain Health Group, they have been able to find a new quality of life.
How does cancer form in the prostate?
Uncontrollable cell growth in a healthy prostate leads to the spread of cancer in this gland. The Prostate Cancer Foundation estimates about four million American men have to deal with prostate cancer.
In most cases prostate cancers are classified as adenocarcinomas. Other, less common, cancer types can occur in the prostate:
- Small cell carcinomas
- Transitional cell carcinomas
- Neuroendocrine tumors
For most men, the spread of prostate cancer is quite slow. A common symptom and early sign of prostate cancer is finding it difficult to urinate.
Can your prostate cause erectile dysfunction?
The state of your prostate can effect the strength and duration of your erections, and ultimately the quality of your sex life. An enlarged prostate can lead to cancer but it can also lead to:
- Achieving and maintaining an erection
- Poor sexual performance
- Low sex drive
If you find that these symptoms describe your experiences and find your prostate is causing discomfort, you should seek medical attention.
